    Clint Bowyer Announces Millsberry 500!

Post by millsluver_98 on Thu Mar 05, 2009 1:03 pm

    By Audrey Smythe-Wei

Thursday, February 26, 2009 — A town known for taking it slow got a boost in speed yesterday, when Clint Bowyer—famous racing champion and driver of the #33 Cheerios car—announced the start of the Millsberry 500!

"It's fast-paced racing where you compete on different tracks, all leading up to the grand event—the Millsberry 500," explained Bowyer. "In every race, the goal is always to finish your laps as quickly as possible. You'll be scored based on your time."

"After each race," Bowyer continued, "you'll have the option of collecting a prize based on your score—or continuing on to the next race, where you'll compete to collect an even better prize—or continuing on until you make it all the way to the Millsberry 500," added Clint with a look of excitement

After finishing his announcement, the champ was immediately mobbed by fans for autographs.

Mayor Wright was also on hand for the big news, and seemed equally thrilled by the crowd's reaction.

"It's great to be out here and feel all this energy. Clint and I really wanted to bring some excitement to Millsberry, and I think we were able to do just that," exclaimed Mayor Wright, adding, "I, for one, can't wait to get out there and drive."

Following the announcement, Bowyer headed out onto the track for a special demonstration lap—clearly astonishing the crowd with his masterful turns. Practically seconds later, he was back at the starting line, hopping out of the car to offer up some pointers on how to be a true driving champion.

"First off," Bowyer said, "you have to maintain a winning attitude. If you visualize your victory, you'll be on the road to the winner's circle. And remember to have fun. That's what it's all about, really."

"Oh, and when you're going into a turn," he added, "you'll want to let off the gas a little—it'll help you not to run off the track or lose control," added Clint

"Also, it helps if you have a victory dance prepared. They can be kind of hard to come up with on the spot," he laughed.

So there you have it, folks! It's time to start your engines, head out to the Millsberry 500, and set your sights on racing glory!

Thursday, February 26, 2009 — There are just a few days left in February, which means you still have a chance to celebrate Black History Month by checking out the exhibit at the Millsberry Museum. Mayor Wright and curator Keith Umai did an amazing job putting the Black History Month exhibit together. The exhibit showcases ten influential figures in African American history: Jackie Robinson, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday, George Washington Carver, Ella Fitzgerald, Malcolm X, Sojourner Truth, Martin Luther King Jr., and Frederick Douglass. So visit today! Not only will you learn a lot about these great personalities—but, by viewing the exhibit, you'll be helping to celebrate their remarkable lives
